EMS Questions

<<Return to the EMS information Page

Recovering from infidelity is never easy. Whether it was an one night stand, pornography, an inappropriate relationship or something else, the impact of infidelity on your marriage cannot be overlooked or pushed aside. In our culture there are mixed messages about what to do when someone has been unfaithful, but a general rule is that no one talks about it. Consequently, many people feel alone in their struggle and in their hurt. At EMS, you are not alone. You are in the company of several other couples who have also experienced infidelity. EMS is a safe place for you to talk about what has happened. EMS is a weekend of learning about yourself, your mate, and your relationship. EMS is not an emotionally easy weekend, but it is productive and helpful in your path to recovery.

Where is EMS held?

Currently, EMS is held in a spacious private home nestled in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. It is a little less than an hour's drive from downtown Austin, Texas. top

Is accommodation provided?

Accommodations are not included; however, in the registration packet you will receive information about local hotels. Austin residents can, of course, travel to EMS each day. top

Are meals provided?

Yes! From breakfast on Friday to lunch on Sunday, meals are included. The small ARC staff prepares meals on-site. Some frequently appearing dishes are breakfast tacos, King Ranch Chicken, salads, and desserts. Snacks are also provided during the session. Coffee and sodas are available throughout the day. If you have concerns about dietary restrictions, you may bring an ice chest and microwave your meals, however we cannot guarantee that there will be refrigerator/freezer room or an available range or oven. top

How many couples usually attend?

We have 6-10 couples with a variety of stories and types of affairs. We also invite a chaplain couple to provide spiritual guidance and prayer for our attendees. One mentor couple will be in attendance to share their story and offer support to the couples. The mentor couple leads the weekly follow-up conference calls after EMS. top

Can I register online?

You sure can! Through the EMS Registration page. You will be asked to pay the deposit online when you register.  top

Is there a dress code?

Dress is casual and comfortable. Please keep in mind that other attendees are frequently dealing with strong temptations and painful reminders that are triggered by visible cleavage, short skirts, and generally provocative attire. Please select your wardrobe for the weekend with this in mind. There are a myriad of options between provocative and dowdy, neither extreme is necessary. We aim to provide a safe place for all participants. So, be considerate of others and please dress modestly. top

Do you offer any discounts or scholarships?

We recommend approaching church leadership with this question. Feel free to pass along our EMS brochure (PDF) and contact information if your church leadership has questions about the Affair Recovery Center. Also, couples who attend the Emergency Marital Seminar will receive online membership free for one year after EMS. In the future, we hope to offer scholarships and military discounts, but are not able to at this time. top

Can I gift an EMS Weekend to my kids (parents, brother, friend, etc)?

If you would like to pay for all or part of an EMS weekend for a family member, friend, employee, or other person, please contact the office at 1-888-5ARC-EMS or use the "tell your story" field on the EMS Registration page top

Is EMS covered by insurance?

No, EMS is not covered by insurance. Although the EMS leaders work as therapists, the weekend is not considered therapy, rather education. Therefore insurance cannot cover the Emergency Marital Seminar. top
