Question:

My husband had a one night stand and swears he was unable to get an erection to perform well enough to reach climax. He had been drinking bourbon and was on a business trip when opportunity and anonymity made an offer. He says it was not enjoyable and it was actually a terrible experience. I’m having trouble believing this scenario as he’s always been a very generous enthusiastic lover. He’s never had struggles in the bedroom before. He claims that it was a very depressing experience and he spent the night wide awake in shock and depression immediately after she passed out. This does not sound like the typical thrill so many other unfaithful have said they experienced. He knew this woman. She was not a stranger to him, which makes me think he knew what he was in for, so there must have been more to it. Wouldn’t he know if he was attracted to her before getting so far into it? Am I wrong for feeling that he’s sparing my feelings? That he’s more comfortable claiming it was uneventful instead of confessing his actual depth in the encounter? My fear is that if he’s minimizing it we will never heal the actual issue that brought him to this. That there’s no severity to what he believes happened. He’s remorseful. He’s broken. I’m not sure how to process what feels unlikely. Or if it’s very likely this is just what went on. Does this sound plausible in your experience? I’m trying to heal and move forward with a repentant unfaithful.
