How to Heal the Anger That Won’t Let Go After Infidelity

The rage that comes after infidelity can make you feel like you've become someone you don't recognize — capable of words, actions, and emotional spirals you never thought possible. In Episode 16, our expert therapists, joined by EMS Weekend Clinical Contributor Brett Hart, LPC, open up with their own deeply personal stories of breaking down in anger, what they learned about the fear, shame, and grief that often sit beneath the rage, and the practical ways they channeled it without doing more damage to themselves or the people they love. If you're feeling stuck in anger you can't seem to shake, or watching it come out sideways in places it doesn't belong, this episode is a reminder that you're not crazy, you're not alone, and there is a way through.

I can't help it, it is so triggering to hearing a wayward spouse defending themselves, being angry. So I'm just going to respond as a person in pain. How dare you. How dare you, you are weak and pathetic and destructive and impulsive and selfish and you wrecked everything and you get to be a petulant baby on top of it all. It makes me wish more than anything I can just snap my fingers and be on the other side of the world from my cheating, lying husband who gets to keep centering himself like a great big baby and never have to look at him or hear from him or hear his name again. He makes me sick. He had all the pleasure of secrecy and long time unfaithfulness, and now he's just mad as a wet hen. Such entitlement. So sickening. I'm married to a giant selfish baby. I hate him more than anyone or anything I have ever hated in my life, and I don't see how it's ever going to stop because he's full of disgusting self pity. Not pain that was inflicted on him, but SELF PITY. It's gross and loathsome and disgusting.

My wife and I had signed up and paid for the EMS weekend but due to health problems were not able to attend. We still plan on attending sometime this year, provided the health issues subside long enough to attend. However, we have been trying to navigate through my acts of infidelity and the way I was in the past. We are trying to navigate it through use of the Bible; however, it has been a long journey - 11 months now since D-Day. There is no AP, since the acts themselves occurred over 20 years ago but non the less have been just as destructive as if they occurred yesterday. Any help with materials until we can attend the EMS weekend would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
