Question:

Have you seen full recovery when the couple reads books together, but the unfaithful doesn't seek individual help? I've written to you twice over my husband's affair with a fragile girl in Thailand. The last time I wrote both he and I had finished our individual classes HH and HFH. He had ended the affair but still had not told her we were still married and we were in crisis because of John shutting down whenever I expressed my pain. Since then there has been no contact with the affair partner in 6 months and John began listening to John Peterson and Ester Perel. He had me get the audio version of The State of Affairs and we listen every weekend and discuss each chapter. He still gets quiet when I express my pain but he will hold me and admits he feels awful about how much he has hurt me. My concern is he has no one else to talk to. He tried to stay in touch with his group but it fell apart. His best friend died three years ago within a month of his mother which preceded the affair by less than a year. He does talk to a friend at work that is in the midst of a divorce and admitted to him we are struggling but working together on our marriage. However he didn't tell him about his affair. I've been praying that God will help him find someone he can talk to. Do you think he can recover if he has no one he can talk to? We were raised in families who don't usually seek counseling but work out our problems together. Have you seen couples like us recover?
