Question:

I am currently in Harboring Hope. In chapter 10, Recommit-Lean into God, in the section on recommitting to your spouse, you state, "Recommitting to your mate involves a commitment to complete forgiveness." I know that forgiveness is a process, but how will I know when I've completely forgiven?
Thank you.

Forgiveness

I had a pastor that talked about this and gave me a better understanding. While forgiveness is a verb, an action that you do, it's not something you can see. It's not like picking a chair up and moving it from one place to another and you know you have done it. We can want to forgive and then find there is a little kingdom in our heart that hasn't surrendered. My pastor said...." When you can tell the story to someone and and the details aren't as vivid as they use to be, maybe you forgot some of them. When the anger or hurt doesn't just well back up as you tell the story. Then you have forgiven. But if not, then you know that there is still some work to do.
