Question:

My wife and I are approaching 1 year since the discovery and trickle truth disclosure of my affairs ended. We have read many affair recovery books, attended 2 affair related workshops together and 1 each individually, I am currently taking HFH and she is taking HH. I see a counselor and do EMDR for my family of origin issues and childhood trauma and have attended 3 workshops that address these issues. I am also attending 12 step recovery meetings daily. In the course of this, I have accepted that I am a sex addict and powerless over lust. How does a sex addict live and function in the world normally without having to live in a cave and never leave their house and yet still be able to create safety for their spouse and even enjoy healthy physical intimacy? Create safety and an understanding that every time a woman crosses my vision my addiction and lust are not triggered. How do I go to a swimming pool, to the gym, even to the mall and have my spouse feel safe that my addiction is not being triggered and a relapse and subsequent betrayal are imminent?
