Question:

I am the betrayed spouse. My husband admitted his 5 month affair to me 6 months ago. Since then, we have had counseling and we are in EMSO. He has been working to rebuild trust to make me feel safe. He has been self-reflective to figure out the "root causes" for his infidelity. I have been working on the ways I failed in our marriage. I have given him unconditional love and forgiveness since day 1. He tells me that he loves me and he is committed to working on our marriage and that he "wants to want this." However, he cannot tell me that he wants to be with me forever. When I ask him why, he says it is because he has doubts of things going back to the way they were. If he really loves me and says he "wants" to want our marriage, then why is it so hard to tell me that I am the only woman for him? Isn't that what unconditional love is? Isn't that what covenant is...forever? This breaks my heart and makes me feel that I cannot completely feel safe. What else can I do besides continue to pray and trust God that He will soften my husband's heart for me? It's really hard to not feel good enough.
