I noticed a lot of affairs seem to start in the midst of couples dealing with tragic events ,death of a parent/child, illness, etc. Is this common? Also my husband’s AP started as a friend and he helped her come off the brink of suicide. She is 15 years younger and he became her knight in shining armor. It was a 2 year mostly emotional affair and I believe he has truly ended it but is really struggling with his feelings for her. I wonder if there is a connection between “saving someone’s life” and an abnormal sense of responsibility for that person's happiness. Along with that I think there were other contributing factors: midlife crisis and struggling with his career. That all combined and made the perfect storm. Our marriage before all this was exceptional and special. I’m trying hard to empathize with his grieving and the pull that he still feels .
