Question

My wife has disclosed several “normal” affairs with different men, lasting from a few months to a few years, but I believe there may be a segment of time in our marriage where there was hyperactivity acting out sexually with multiple men. My suspicion was somewhat validated this last EMS Weekend when, during small group, she alluded to this period of time I suspect, but said she was only texting multiple men. That was the first I have heard even this. I believe she trickled some truth about this, but would never reveal all of it for fear of losing me. I, too, am concerned about the gravity of what might be missing… In summary, the EMS Weekend was excellent, and a huge leap forward, but even over the weekend, I woke one morning with intrusive thoughts about the unknown. How do I best reconcile these conflicting issues then: I may forever be haunted in my thoughts of the unknown. I may not want to continue with my wife if I DO gain full knowledge of just how bad it may have been. Demanding that my wife disclose, for example through a polygraph, might create severe repercussions for her psychologically because of the shame. Is there any hope for me to leave “well enough alone”, such that the thoughts will go away, or am I fooling myself?
