Question:

My husband and I benefitted a great deal from our weekend retreat with you, but I’m lost. I feel that my husband doesn't love me and hasn’t shown fear of losing me.. He was unfaithful several times, and I discovered his last affair only a month ago. After that, I told him that divorce was the consequence, but he suddenly wanted to put forth effort... for the first time after 10 years of problems and me begging him to put forth effort. He wanted to do everything you suggested. I felt that he thought that if he put in the effort, then everything would be great - unfortunately none of the effort involved me and my pain. I have had a number of breakdowns as I still feel that he doesn't really care, and today he had the brilliant idea that we should divorce to put my pain to rest, and then he would have to earn his way back to me. He is very uplifted about this idea, and I am crushed. I once again feel that he finds a way to escape me and my pain instead of putting in the effort of helping me and earning my respect by showing me that I can trust him when I feel horrible. I feel that he lets me down only a month after I discovered the affair and only two days after my 50th birthday because it is too hard to handle my pain. We have two children and I am so worried for their future. Should I just let him divorce me and accept that the marriage is over?
