Question:

I asked about withdrawing my commitment to complete honesty. I mean emotional honesty. If I am vulnerable with him and then learn he has engaged in one of his addictions, I am transported back to the beginning and it feels like D day all over again. I just do not feel safe. I feel as though I am being retraumatized. I do not have the energy to keep trying to be vulnerable with him and build a foundation when he still is not able to acknowledge my safety needs. I am continuing to meet his safety needs. I see the progress he is making, it is just slow and we have a long way to go. I want to protect myself a little bit. The emotional cost to me is less if I have not been completely vulnerable.
