Expert Q&A Preview: Am I Looking at Forgiveness Wrong?

Question:

We are 5 months past D day. My husband had two affairs, one ten years ago and one recently that lasted 4 years. We are doing the after EMS course and last week we finished the lesson on forgiveness. I asked him if he has forgiven himself and he said, “yes.” I don’t want him to be tortured for what he did but it seems like a very short time frame to forgiveness for the person that caused the pain. I’m concerned that maybe his ego and self-centered behavior is just too strong to look beyond himself. I have not forgiven him but I have every intention of getting there. Am I looking at this all wrong?
