Question:

My husband is a pastor who has left the ministry after having an affair with a congregant this past summer. What makes my situation unique is that he is also a recovering alcoholic who has been sober for 9 years and recently relapsed. Sadly, he was charged with a DUI this year as well. He is on probation and continues to drink, as well as bringing my children around this affair partner who is also a recovering addict. My children are 2 and 5. I hear everyone say that it is important for them to have their dad in their lives and to encourage that relationship. I understand this, but when does it get to the point that their dad just is not healthy or safe for them to be around, especially when the children are at such a young age? In addition, can you give any specific advice on dealing with a mate who is relapsing in addiction amidst an affair? Is the affair just a fruit of his addiction issues that are rearing their head once again almost a decade later?
