What am I supposed to tell my kids about why Daddy left and why he doesn't often come to see them? My husband in particular struggles with anxiety, depression, and shame related to his affair (which he says is over; also says he wants to work on the marriage). So even though we are "working on the marriage", he doesn't know how to overcome these debilitating fears/anxieties and will often miss visits with the kids. I have an 8-yr-old daughter, as well as a 4-yr-old son and a 2-year-old daughter. I think my 8-year old daughter may be becoming depressed. Do you know of any resources in Austin to help depressed kids when a parent leaves due to mental illness?? We need help learning how to process the grief, and hopefully to educate her about his anxiety/depression so that she can feel hopeful and empowered, and know that this is not her fault and not because Daddy doesn't love her.
