Question:

Hi Rick, Hope you are well. You worked with us in your small group at EMS over the summer. My question is so simple it is complicated. My husband is a recovering sex addict and has been working recovering for two months (specialized therapist, SAA, AA). We are separated and his recovery is his own and he has been working the program in every way and I am very relieved he chose this path. At your suggestion we remain separated while he proves that he can be safe and live in recovery (best advice ever by the way-thank you). While I see him fully committed to his recovery and that all his time, energy, and money goes toward it, I am frustrated that he's not putting the same amount of effort into building a new relationship with me. He says he absolutely wants our family and that his recovery is crucial to him having our family. He also has lied to me on two separate occasions while in recovery; that has essentially wiped away our progress as a couple and brought us back to ground zero. Again. He is working on the pathological lying issue with his therapist but I feel I cannot go forward until I see an honest man. *Does he have to be further along in recovery before he can attempt to put energy into a new relationship with me and rebuild our family? Thanks Rick!
