Question:

One of our recurring challenges centers around how and when to share our story. My wife carries a significant amount of shame & guilt, so she has shared with her friends very little. As a couple, we have occasionally shared with close friend/couples with mixed results. Once, we shared with our church based small group - that was a mistake because by the next day, the confidence we asked for was betrayed and our story was out in the community. In other cases, we have shared in a way (I've referred to it as vomiting) that seems as though we've burdened our friends with too much information. We have some close friends that don't know our story that we feel should, believing that greater relational intimacy only comes with transparency but we're a little gun-shy given our history. Any advice on how, when & where it's best to share our story?
