Question:

I read a lot about forgiveness in the program. It is acknowledged that the betrayed spouse is paying the price for this forgiveness. Could you tell me why the recovery process does not require a symbolic sacrifice as well? I would consider it to partially balance out the damage done to the betrayed spouse. For instance giving up a beloved hobby, or beloved possession. To my opinion the emotional cost of such a sacrifice would not only at least partially equate the “gains” of infidelity but would also show willingness to be in the relationship despite being hurt in the same manner as this is required for the betrayed spouse.
