Question:

When my wife and I began dating I knew she had been diagnosed with complex post traumatic stress disorder. Over the years I built up a mental shield against her pain and suffering, because it seemed that no matter how much support I felt I was providing, it never was enough to be of any help to her, and the more she took the more I became emotionally exhausted. Now as the unfaithful trying to rebuild the marriage I am finding that my greatest hurdle is letting down that shield. The shield is there because my empathy simply became pain when she would accuse me of being completely unsupportive. Is it possible to heal this?
